Building the Future: A New High School for Brooks

Christ The Redeemer Catholic Schools and St. Joseph’s Collegiate are excited to announce the development a brand-new high school that will serve students and families in Brooks for generations to come.

This building is designed for 870 students. This increases the capacity of CTR students in Brooks from 1,384 to 2,180 and will accommodate the future growth of Brooks across the new building and our current school sites.

The St. Joseph Collegiate new school will encompass 7590m² of new space, including the 1050m² gym and specialized classrooms, supporting our commitment to community engagement and educational excellence. The combined size of the existing Christ the King Academy and St. Joseph Collegiate is 6409m².

The new school will include:

  • 24 general classrooms
  • 3 science labs
  • Band room
  • 4 Career Technology Studies labs
  • Information Technology spaces
  • Gymnasium
  • Library Learning Commons
  • Learning Support Areas
  • Chapel
  • Gathering area
  • Office spaces, and more!

CTR is also committing capital funds to make enhancements, which may include providing gym upgrades, outdoor upgrades, enhanced CTS programming, all to improve student learning experiences and programming.

Thanks to strong community support and provincial funding, this project is moving forward quickly. The school will be located at the old Rodeo Grounds site, with construction led by Alberta Infrastructure.

Enhancing Student Experience

While Alberta Education provides a standard 690m² gymnasium for schools of this size, CTR has committed to adding an additional space bringing the gym to a total of 1050m². This ensures more space for athletics, extracurricular activities, and community use. Outdoor upgrades and community contributions are also being explored.

Community Engagement

From the very beginning, the Brooks community has played a vital role in advocating for this school. Engagement with parents, staff, and local residents will continue throughout the planning and construction process, ensuring the school reflects the needs and values of the community. Click “Brooks Staff Engagement” in the sidebar to read the feedback we received so far from our staff.

Looking Ahead

Future updates will include school design details, construction timelines, and other plans for opening.

We are grateful for the ongoing support of our community as we work together to build a brighter future for students in Brooks.
